Ford Recall Shows Need for Manufacturing Accuracy
Last week Ford announced the recall of nearly 115,000 Bronco Sports and Escapes based on a rear braking problem caused by incorrectly manufactured brakes.
The issue, related to the vehicle's brake linings, results in an increase in braking effort required by the driver while simultaneously increasing the vehicle’s expected stopping distance (in one test, by almost 100 feet) thereby escalating the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA. The rear brake-caliper linings were not manufactured to the correct friction coefficient and were deemed below specification.
Once again, this recall brings to light the importance of accurately manufactured braking components when it comes to both vehicle and driver safety. Any issues related to braking components are taken seriously by the NHTSA and manufacturers alike and can be a costly mistake for manufacturers who fail to address them before releasing vehicles to market.
North American manufacturer NRS Brakes makes brake components, including brake pads for all major automakers including Ford, GM, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota. All of its components are manufactured to exact specification, ensuring accurate fit and function with every vehicle. With more than 20 years of history in manufacturing brake components and more than 1 billion parts supplied, NRS galvanized brake pads are specifically engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications.
NRS manufactures an end-to-end product, with complete control over all components, including the backing plate, shims, friction, and installation hardware. And because NRS uses only galvanized, unpainted steel, their brake pads never require shot blasting or grinding that can impact final fit, which diminishes both performance and safety of brake components. As a result NRS brake pads have been voted Best Brake Pads for two years in a row by AutoGuide.com.
When it comes to braking components, neither manufacturers nor drivers can afford the cost or risk of manufacturing mistakes. NRS Brakes’ galvanized brake pads are reliable, durable, safe and designed for a perfect fit.
