TORONTO, ON — A brake pad violently shaking inside a caliper demands attention. NRS Brakes is urging technicians and the aftermarket to watch this video and recognize why steel backing plate tolerances matter.
An undersized backing plate can leave excessive clearance, allowing the pad to slap against its mounting surfaces-creating noise, vibration and repeated impacts that may contribute to friction material damage.
An oversized plate creates another problem: the installer may have to file or grind its edges to make it fit.
Remove too much steel, and a pad that was too tight becomes dangerously loose. The cause in any individual case requires inspection.
Correct fit starts with correctly manufactured backing plates.

Backing plate tolerances are a safety requirement.
Getting the fit right belongs in the factory-not on the installer's grinder.
